What did I learn in three years of my BA degree ?
-
I majored in Journalism and Mass Communication at Fatima College, India.
-
Apart from all the academic learning, I also learned many practical skills.
-
In my first year of college, I was responsible for content writing and editing the departmental newsletter.
-
I was also the junior editor for the newsletter.
-
In my second year, I became the senior editor and assistant social media manager and handled the department's FB page.
-
In my third year, I became the editor-in-chief and senior writer. I was the head event organiser and organised major departmental events like meetings and events.
-
All of these experiences have made me a stronger leader and have given me the ability to work in a team and a sense of responsibility.
Why Journalism?
-
I was and still am a very curious child and person. Ever since I was in kindergarten, I used to see the English newspaper with my dad. I would read it out loud even though I didn't understand anything.
-
I wanted to major in Journalism when I saw Britta Roeske standing next to Sebastian Vettel during the 2011 India Grand Prix.
-
It was on that day I discovered that I want to become like her. Thus I choose this major.
-
It was a very odd major that I chose but I did love it. I am fortunate enough that I have a family who supported my weird major choice and am very blessed to have an older brother who actually supports my passion for Formula One \ Sports Journalism.
What kind of projects did I do during in UG?
-
Projects and assignments were so much fun during my college days.
-
It was all about designing and creating.
-
I learned to design a newspaper in Adobe InDesign.
-
I also learned Photoshop and CorelDraw.
-
I am a self-learner, so I learned all the software by myself. It indeed became handy for me in the present day.
-
I have listed all of my UG projects below, so do check them out.
PROJECTS
Photoshop &CorelDRAW
-
One thing i absoluty loved doing was graphic designing. I learned how to use corelDraw in college and self taught myself to use photoshop.
-
During the course of 3 years, I got a lot of projects which required to use these software and design.
-
All my designs were used as a model by other students and I ofcourse helped them in designing as well.
Departmental Newsletter
-
One of the best ideas I've pitched during department meetings was to issue a small departmental magazine\newsletter in and around the department or stick it around the notice board to inform the latest news and issues or events the department was hosting.
-
Before the newsletter, everything would be posted on the Departmental FB page and blog.
-
To see how this would work out, we created the first edition with articles written by my fellow classmates.
-
To make it more interesting, we added quizzes and an art section. All the art was done by students who were good at drawing or painting.
-
This was the first edition, I was in charge of designing and editing and proofreading the English section while my friend who was really good at Tamil was in charge of editing the Tamil section.
Coding
-
Now, before you start to think this will be some hi-tech web coding, it's not. This was a course for getting that extra 2 credits in my final year. But it was fun (even though it made me cry my eyes out) to create and code and see how your codes turn into web pages.
-
So the task was to create a simple web page displaying all our ads and designs on the page.
-
After a few tries and errors and a lot of youtube videos later, I finished with this code.
-
Here is the entire folder.
BA - Coding Project
